Maybach Was a Mercedes Losing Game

Last year we posted an article that started off asking if Hip-Hop killed the Maybach – especially with Jay-Z and Kanye West using one as a scateboard for their Otis track. It was moreso a rhetorical question with a modicum of truth to it as far as .

Though one can argue that they brought the car exposure the answer to that becomes, “exposure to whom?” The article when on to explain that Mercedes decided to discontinue the Maybach in favor of its tiny car, reports by Forbes add to this information.

They do drop out of super luxurious category owned by the likes of the Bentleys and Rolls Royces but they will continue to do luxury as they are known for with their S class.

Another light shed on why the Maybach will be discontinued after selling 3,000 cars worldwide is strictly financial, for every Maybach built and sold they lost about $437,000 and change apiece,  raking up to an estimated $1.32 billion in losses
